Pomeroy: ND Energy, Ag Lose Clout if He's Beaten
North Dakota Democratic U.S. Rep. Earl Pomeroy says the state's energy and farm interests would lose clout if he's beaten in his quest for a 10th term in Congress.By: Associated Press,
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota Democratic U.S. Rep. Earl Pomeroy says the state's energy and farm interests would lose clout if he's beaten in his quest for a 10th term in Congress.
Pomeroy and Republican challenger Rick Berg debated Monday in an event sponsored by the North Dakota Associated Press Broadcasters Association.
Pomeroy says House Democrats have backed farm legislation that's favorable to North Dakota, while Republicans have opposed it. Pomeroy says he's used his influence to support tax breaks for ethanol and oppose attempts to hamper North Dakota's oil production.
Berg says Democratic control of Congress has led to massive growth in the national debt and costly bailouts of the bank and auto industries. Berg says Pomeroy's seniority doesn't work "if you're going down the wrong path."
