The flu has hit Rolette County.

Public health administrators say there has been more concern about the flu there this year. Requests for the seasonal flu vaccine are up 50 to 60 percent. Many of these people were also interested in getting the H1N1 vaccine.

The county has received about 120 doses of the H1N1 vaccine...and expects another shipment today. Doses are still going to people that are considered to be high-risk. It's not yet known when the general public will be able to get vaccinated.

Flu cases are prevalent...so the only people being tested for the H1N1 virus are health care workers and people who need to be hospitalized. The flu is also hitting area schools hard.

Barbara Frydenlund: "The school administrators indicate to me they expect about a 10 percent absentee rate this time of year, 10 percent being high. Some of the schools have had absentee rates up to 34 percent."

Twenty of the H1N1 doses the county had gone bad, but those doses were not given to people.
