District 17 Candidates Visit Grand Forks Seniors

The Grand Forks Senior Center is continuing their efforts to make sure senior citizens are informed about who they're voting for.

The Grand Forks Senior Center is continuing their efforts to make sure senior citizens are informed about who they're voting for. With the election weeks away, candidates are taking the time to talk with local seniors about issues important to them.

Candidates for senate and the house of representatives for district 17 all talked about issues they feel are important to seniors. Lowering property tax was high on the list.

"Most seniors are on a fixed income and as property tax goes up and up, their incomes do not. The increase on property tax has a big impact on senior citizens," District 17 Rep. Louise "Weezie" Potter said.

Two programs candidates feel will help seniors live independently are Medicare and Social Security

"If these proven programs can help keep people in their homes and maintain their health better, it will help save on nursing home costs," House Candidate Thomas Petros said.

Perhaps the most important message to this audience is their vote is always wanted.
