Kids at GF Daycare Release Balloons, Receive Reply

A group of kids at a Grand Forks daycare recently learned a big lesson in a small red balloon.

The kids at Creative Kids Corner released 15 balloons last week. Four have been found, and one of them, all the way in Georgia. All the balloons carried a little message with a big educational impact.

"Karson's balloon was an Elmo balloon and this balloon made it all the way to Georgia!" daycare owner Jane Enright said.

The balloon's journey began on October 6th when it was released at Cox Park in Grand Forks. Four days later, the kids at Creative Kids Corner heard it made contact. That gave them a chance for a little geography lesson.

A man from Marietta, GA emailed the daycare to tell them he found the balloon and he sent them a picture to prove it. A note on the balloon told the man where to find where it came from.

Letting a bunch of balloons go sounds pretty simple, but there were some educational reasons behind it.

"They're learning so much. We do so many hands-on activities, we go out and see it," Enright said.

Enright says the kids were learning about the United States and Paul Revere's role as a messenger. Releasing the balloons with notes attached was a way to live the history, rather than read about it.

And their project brought learning back to them from across the United States.
