Chamber of Commerce Holds Candidate Forum

The Chamber of Commerce hosted a forum at the Grand Forks City Hall Wednesday night for candidates of the upcoming November election.

The open forum was a chance for people in the area to hear more from and ask questions of the people running for public office.

Candidates for districts 43 and 17 and county commissioner all touched on issues they feel are important to voters. The candidates for county commission all say property tax is a big concern for voters this election.

Recently the county commission passed a preliminary budget for next year, which could mean a hike in property tax.

Incumbents Gary Malm and Spud Murphy say lowering them would be bad for county services, while challenger Michael Coachman disagrees. Coachman says the county could look to other sources for income.
