Woman Arrested in Beltrami Shooting Death
Woman held on first-degree murder charge
The common-law wife of a Beltrami county man who died today after being shot in the head has been arrested and is facing first-degree murder charges.
The Beltrami County Sheriff's Department arrested Betsy Hanks, 25, this afternoon. Hanks is being held in the Beltrami County Jail on first-degree murder charges in the shooting death of 27-year-old Matthew Albert.
It was Hanks who called authorities Tuesday morning that Albert was suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Albert was alive but unconscious and flown to Minneapolis for treatment. He never regained consciousness and died today. His body was transported to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s office for autopsy.
Hanks led officers to a missing handgun in the case and was arrested. She is being held on first-degree murder charges. Reports will be forwarded to the Beltrami County Attorney for review.
