EAST GRAND FORKS -- Jaclyn Scanlan and Marina Galstad each scored two goals in the second half to lead East Grand Forks to a 5-1 win over Detroit Lakes in Thursday's Minnesota Section 8A girls soccer championship game.
The Green Wave scored all five of their goals in the second half, en route to their second consecutive section championship.
After a scoreless first half, a misplay by Laker goalie Courtney Grey led to a Green Wave goal early in the second half. Senior High's Brooke Greenwood scored to put the Wave ahead for good.
Scanlan scored the next two goals. Galstad then scored to make it 4-0. The Lakers' Emily Payne beat Wave goalie Chelsey Grassel for Detroit Lakes' only goal with 13 minutes left. Galstad responded with her second goal of the night to finish a 5-1 Wave victory.
"I thought that our transition game was excellent," said Green Wave coach Jessica Krog, "especially in the second half."
Krog added, "Detroit Lakes has a great goaltender and we knew we'd have to get good shots and good finishes to get the ball by her. I thought we capitalized very well in the second half."
The Green Wave take a 19-1-1 record into the state tournament.
On Sunday, the Wave find out what team they will face in next week's quarterfinals. A year ago, EGF was eliminated in the state quarterfinals with a 2-0 loss to LaCrescent.
