Our first blast of winter weather is coming right in the middle of Severe Winter Weather Awareness Week in North Dakota.
The week is designed to raise awareness about the hazards associated with winter weather. It's a good reminder to get your winter survival kit in your car and brush up on what to do if you get stranded on the road.
WDAZ meteorologist Rob Kupec says don't just rely on technology to keep you safe.
"Obviously, heading out on the road in the winter, make sure you've got your cell phone with you. But don't solely rely on it, because as you get outside of town sometimes the coverage gets spotty, and sometimes even if you get in touch with somebody, they may not be able to get to you if the roads are too bad," Kupec said.
