WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) — One person is dead following the fiery collision of a cargo train and a semitrailer hauling oil in northwest North Dakota.
The collision happened early Tuesday afternoon about 7 miles northeast of Williston.
Williams County Sheriff Scott Busching tells the Williston Herald that it appeared the truck was attempting to cross the tracks when the crash occurred. Busching says the truck driver was killed, but no one on the train was injured.
The truck driver's name had not been released by late Tuesday afternoon.
At least one rail car was still on fire some two hours after the crash. Investigators say some of the rail cars were loaded with isopropyl alcohol and sulfuric acid, which complicated the effort to extinguish the fire.
