Anti-Pomeroy U.S. House Ad Says ND Economy "Reeling"

A new television campaign ad critical of Democratic U.S. Rep. Earl Pomeroy says North Dakota's economy is "reeling" and Pomeroy is partly to blame.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A new television campaign ad critical of Democratic U.S. Rep. Earl Pomeroy says North Dakota's economy is "reeling" and Pomeroy is partly to blame.

The problem with the ad is that North Dakota is doing well by almost any economic measure. Unemployment is lower than 4 percent, personal income is rising and state government is running a budget surplus close to $1 billion.

The ad was produced by the group American Crossroads. Former President George W. Bush adviser Karl Rove helped form the group to support Republican candidates.

Pomeroy spokesman Brenden Timpe says North Dakotans will "see through this phony ad" and says it's an example of special interest support for the campaign of Pomeroy's Republican opponent, Rick Berg.
