DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota Highway 57 has reopened in the Devils Lake area, two days after state Transportation officials closed it due to flooding.

A storm that brought winds in excess of 60 mph to the state on Tuesday and Wednesday sent waves crashing over the highway, one of two main routes between the city of Devils Lake and the Spirit Lake Reservation.

The water washed debris onto the road, including trees up to 12 inches in diameter. Snow plows had to be called out to remove the debris.

The state Transportation Department cautions motorists that road construction still is taking place on the highway.
