For some parents today... a trip to the Columbia Mall meant a step towards preventing a kidnapping.

Child ID badges were given out for free to anyone who wanted one just outside of JC Penney's.

Kids got their fingerprints taken along... with a picture ID to take home with them.

The child ID badges are to help recover lost or kidnapped children in the Grand Forks area.

Parents getting the id's say they were grateful to get them

Angie Mock: "I just think its important to have that information, and if she ever went missing or anything ever happened, I would have all the information through them and a card."

The Grand Forks Police Department plans to have the booth in the mall once a month for the rest of the year.
