WASHINGTON (AP) — As Republicans move for control of the House, they've captured the seat that was held for 14 terms by Rick Boucher in Virginia. They've also taken Democratic seats in Indiana and Florida.

Democrat Richard Blumenthal has been elected to the Senate from Connecticut, defeating Republican former wrestling executive Linda McMahon for the seat held by the retiring Chris Dodd. McMahon spent about $50 million of her own money in the Senate race.

New York's governor's race has gone to Democrat Andrew Cuomo, who defeated Republican Carl Paladino. Paladino, who had tea party support, had slipped in the polls after suggesting that children could be brainwashed into being gay.

North Dakota's Republican governor, John Hoeven, moves to the Senate, taking the seat that had been held by retiring Democratic Sen. Byron Dorgan. Republicans also gained Senate seats in Arkansas and Indiana.
