BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring (GOHR'-ing) has won his first campaign for the post, beating Democratic challenger Merle Boucher.

With 33 percent of precincts reporting, Goehring had 69 percent of the vote and Boucher 31 percent.

Goehring is the only statewide officeholder up for election who is not an incumbent. Gov. John Hoeven appointed him last year after Democrat Roger Johnson was elected president of the National Farmers Union.

Goehring unsuccessfully ran against Johnson in 2004 and 2006.

Boucher has served in the North Dakota House for two decades.
