Devils Lake Mayor Reacts to Advisory VoteOne of the issues on the ballot in Devils Lake, a smoking ban advisory vote.
Residents were asked if they would like to see Devils Lake follow other cities in North Dakota with a smoking ordinance.
59% of the voters said yes.
The issue will now go to the city commission for a vote.
Devils Lake Mayor Dick Johnson says an advisory vote was the easiest way to gauge how the public feels about the issue.
"We've got their input so now based, armed with that new input I think its up to the commission to make a decision to what they feel is in the best interest of the city," explained Johnson.
The Commission is expected to discuss the issue at its next meeting.
