A new face will be sitting in the Sheriff's seat in Polk County. The new sheriff is also the first female to become sheriff in the county.
"It's an honor to be elected Sheriff," said Barb Erdman who will take over responsibilities as Sheriff in Polk County Minnesota.
And happy she should be. With a spread of 4400 votes, Barb Erdman says she's excited to be the first female sheriff in Polk county but says her being a woman had nothing to do with it.
"What even more I am excited about is that I am elected, that the residents in Polk County have confidence in me and my ability. I am very appreciative of the support I've gotten," said Erdman.
Erdman says her biggest obstacle as the new sheriff is working with a decreasing budget.
"Given the budget issue, it's not going to be an opportunity for me to do a lot of new and innovative type of things. I think what we will do is work hard on maintaining the level of service we currently have," Erdman said
Even with a budget issue, Erdman plans to make sure her deputies are seen more often.
"That's something we will continue to work hard on so that we're visible throughout the county. Presence is a lot when you are out and about and people see the cars, it serves as a deterrent for crime," said Erdman.
With her 23 years of service and work in just about every position at the sheriff's office, Erdman says she's the right fit for the job.
Erdman will take office next year.
