BOTTINEAU, N.D. (AP) — City leaders in Bottineau are exploring the idea of forming their own police force.
The City Council has approved a feasibility study, in response to an expected increase in oil activity in the region.
The city has contracted with the Bottineau County Sheriff's Office since the mid-1970s for law enforcement. Sheriff Steve Watson tells the Minot Daily News that the city considering its own department "was news to me." He says some people are upset.
Councilman Troy Marsden says the idea is just in the study phase and that some people are overreacting.
