BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota Democratic Rep. Earl Pomeroy says even though he lost his bid for re-election, his final weeks in office will be busy ones.

He's got to pack up 18 years' worth of records and souvenirs, help his staff find jobs and look for a job himself. And there will be a lame-duck session of Congress.

Pomeroy wants to have a vote on legislation he's sponsored to provide a $250 payment to Social Security recipients because they won't be getting an inflationary increase in their checks.

Pomeroy says figuring out which things to preserve and which to throw away are important jobs left to do. He says there was a lot of history made during his time in office, and he wants the record to be complete.
