BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota Public Service Commissioner Tony Clark says he'll be resigning Friday as chairman of the state Republican Party.

Clark has been chairman since July 27. He was picked after former chairman Gary Emineth resigned to devote more attention to his business projects.

Next week, Clark is to be elected president of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners at the group's annual meeting in Atlanta.

Clark is in line to replace David Coen of Vermont. He says he wanted to step down as North Dakota Republican chairman before he is elected as the president of the national association.

Republicans swept state offices and made gains in the Legislature during last week's election, and Clark says it was a good time to be party chairman.
