Boat Capsizes, Boys Rescued From Otter Tail River

Breckenridge, MN (WDAY-TV) -- Several law enforcements agencies were called out in Wilkin County Monday night after a boat sunk on the Otter Tail River and two boys were trapped in the water.

Breckenridge, MN (WDAY-TV) -- Several law enforcements agencies were called out in Wilkin County Monday night after a boat sunk on the Otter Tail River and two boys were trapped in the water.

It happened just after 7:30 pm.

Three 17-year-old boys whose boat were hunting east of Breckenridge when their trolling motor quit.

When the boys tried to grab onto a log, the flat-bottom boat turned sideways in the current, hit a log and capsized.

All three were thrown into the Otter Tail River.

One of the boys managed to swim to shore and call for help and the other two climbed onto a log in the water.

The Breckenridge Fire Department used a boat to rescue the pair from the river.

All three were treated for hypothermia at the scene and released.

The Wilkin County Sheriff's Department says none of the boys were wearing life jackets, but all three did have on chest waders.
