Fire Destroys Two Lidgerwood Public School Classrooms

LIDGERWOOD, N.D. – A fire that started shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday in the Lidgerwood Public School destroyed two classrooms and forced postponement of semifinal action at the state Class B Region 1 high school volleyball tournament.
The fire, which started in a room on the first floor of the school, was called in as an electrical fire by a janitor who tried to put it out with a fire extinguisher before it started spreading, said 1st Lt. Ron Haley of the Lidgerwood Fire Department.
The fire is essentially out, with firefighters doing mop-up.
In addition to the destroyed classrooms, Haley said there is significant smoke damage on the school’s first floor and some smoke damage on the second floor.
People who were in an activity center attached to the school were evacuated.
No injuries were reported.
