Lake Region Museum Closing

Bad news for people in the Lake Region who enjoy visiting the Heritage Center in Devils Lake. It will be closed.

Ramsey County Measure 1 needed 60 percent of the vote to pass in last weeks mid-term election, it only got 51.

Now board members and employees need to figure out what comes next.

Chairman of the Board of Directors George Zenk says the museum has decided to close the doors of the Heritage Center Museum effective today.

The decision was decided at a meeting held by the museum last night.

The Museum has been in a financial rut for quite some time now, but Zenk says they'll keep working to re-open.

"We have been in contact with some corporations, some private donors, and we're also looking at maybe, possibly, some legislative solutions, explains Zenk.

Zenk says they hope to re-open the museum in April which is also it's anniversary month.

Miki's School of Dance, which is located in the Heritage Center Museum will still be located there, as they will be able to operate at the level of heat the museum is going to stay at to preserve artifacts.
