Giving Back to Cando

The city of Cando has been chosen by the Impact Foundation to be a model community in North Dakota, demonstrating what can be done when people make the decision to give back to a community.

The goal of the Cando Connection Organization is to raise $1 million to give back to their community through grants.

If organizers can get 500 to pledge $1,000 over a five year period they'll have it.

Cando-ites, as they call themselves, have already helped donate more than $22,000 back to the community.

The money raised has been given to 10 different organizations in Cando.

Pastor Bonnie Weaver runs the Cando Area Food Pantry.

Weaver says, "it really helped stir people to have some pride and connection in their own community."

Organizations have to submit an application with a project outline they would use the money for.

Tonight at 6 we'll hear from some of the recipients.

Reporting live in Devils Lake, Ashley McMillan, WDAZ News.
