MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The city impound lots of Minneapolis and St. Paul are staying busy as city crews plow out Saturday's snow storm.
Both cities have declared snow emergencies, which triggers parking restrictions so the plows can clear the streets. Violators can be towed.
Employees at the Minneapolis impound lot tell KSTP-TV that 1,047 vehicles were towed during the first two days of the city's snow emergency. City employees say that's about 400 more vehicles than they usually see during the first snow emergency of the season.
In St. Paul, 577 cars were towed in. It typically costs about $200 to get a vehicle back after it has been towed.
Nearly 8 inches of snow fell at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport by 6 a.m. Sunday. The official St. Paul total was just over 6 inches.
