BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Applications are being accepted for two upcoming vacancies on North Dakota's Board of Higher Education.

A nominating committee is to meet on Dec. 15 and forward three nominations for each post to the governor's office. Board members appointed by the governor must be confirmed by the state Senate next year.

The Higher Ed board oversees the state's 11 public colleges and universities. It has seven members who serve four-year terms, one student member and one nonvoting faculty adviser.

The vacancies will be created when the terms of Jon Backes of Minot and Grant Shaft of Grand Forks expire at the end of next June.
