ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie has mapped out a county-by-county plan for a recount in the governor's race between Democrat Mark Dayton and Republican Tom Emmer.

Ritchie's office released a preliminary schedule Monday showing how the process will unfold in government centers and county courthouses. The state's largest county, Hennepin, will have 25 teams of officials doing the counting, compared with just one team each in sparsely populated counties such as Koochiching and Traverse.

The likely recount will begin at 9 a.m. on Nov. 29.

The state canvassing board is to certify a winner by mid-December, but the race could stay unresolved longer if either side goes to court.

Dayton leads Emmer by 8,755 votes out of 2.1 million cast, a small enough margin to prompt an automatic hand recount. The totals are unofficial until the canvassing board meets to certify the numbers next week.
