Perham, Minn. (WDAY TV) - A Perham man will spend a year in jail for setting his own house on fire.
40-year-old Jeffrey Berns has been convicted of 1st degree arson after investigators found smoldering rags stuffed near an electrical box.
Berns' wife told investigators they were in financial trouble. Insurance policies on the home were worth $300,000.
Berns was also fined $500, will be on probation for 20 years, and face $40,000 in restitution.
