According to Winnipeg Airport officials, more and more Canadians are traveling to Grand Forks to fly around the U.S.

The Winnipeg Airport Authority estimates that they lose 50,000 people a year who are traveling to the U.S. to fly.

That's enough people to fill a flight to Florida and Phoenix every day, all year long.

Officials say it is cheaper to fly out of the U.S. because Canadians have to pay more taxes on flights.

"We don't blame anybody for doing it. That's good personal financial management. The question comes back to 'why do Canadians need to do that,'" said Barry Remple, CEO of Winnipeg Airport Authority.

Rempel says losing Canadian passengers to U.S. airports is an issue across Canada. They would like to see some of the fees imposed on their passengers lowered or eliminated to be more fair.
