FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Cass County's lead prosecutor says no criminal charges will be filed against a Fargo abortion clinic doctor whose North Dakota medical license expired.

State's Attorney Birch Burdick says the investigation turned up no evidence that Lori Thorndike was unfit to practice medicine at the Red River Women's Clinic. He says her license has since been renewed, and she also has active medical licenses in Colorado and South Dakota.

Burdick says the lapsing of the doctor's North Dakota license "appears to have been an administrative oversight."

Fargo Catholic Bishop Samuel Aquila says he's disappointed charges won't be filed.

Fargo police received more than two dozen calls from the public once the issue became known. Police earlier said the calls might have stemmed from a chain e-mail circulating to abortion protesters.
