According to the President of the Grand Forks Public Library Board, they are getting closer to finding a site for the proposed new library.
Continuing a 10-day Community Conversation, the Library Board wants feedback on three location finalists.
The board is putting a lot of thought into the process before picking the location.
"There is a methodology to this," said Susan Mickelson, President of the Grand Forks Public Library Board.
Narrowing it down to three locations from 25 for the proposed new Grand Forks Public Library, has not been a short story.
"We had 26 criteria, we weighted each one of those criteria and in the end there was a score for each location," she said.
Scoring the highest: the old Levers site on Demers and Washington, farm land on 32nd avenue and, the much talked-about five acres donated by the park board.
This would put the library on the south part of town near the proposed new wellness center, just off South Washington on 47th Avenue.
"The three finalists we're looking at to continue, largely had to do with visibility, access, easy-to-travel thoroughfare. Also it needs to be on public transportation lines," Mickelson said.
It needs to be big; 68,000 square feet, to be exact.
"We're half that right now. It's a huge criteria to be able to expand and have enough room to conduct business," said Mickelson
In the past few weeks, one site has been getting a lot of attention. At a community meeting, some expressed concerns about the wellness site being too far for some people and kids to get to.
According to Mickelson, this is something they've dealt with before.
"The growth and the development of the city is going south. When we built our current location we were on the south end as well. You would typically build a library for the future."
As for the future site of the library, Mickelson said each site would give the library the desired type of longevity.
Meaning this story is far from being over.
"We are so far away from designating a location."
