The sheriff's department will be doing more patrols with jet ski's and a private access on the tubing route. It comes after two people drowned in the tubing area last August. Over the winter, Deputies held several meeting to focus on how to make the river safer.

MITCH BERNSTEIN - Red Lake County Sheriff: “It will help us increase our visibility, and to more proactively address tubers and make contact make sure that they are not over indulging. It will also give us better access to the island down there so we can move people along so they don't stay there so long.”

Bernstein says two deputies will be on the river during the busy times.
