GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) - A North Dakota man was killed over the weekend when he was struck by a pickup truck while walking on a rural highway in the Canadian province of Manitoba.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police did not immediately identify the victim, who had relatives in the area.

Sgt. Line Karpish told the Grand Forks Herald that the man's vehicle was found in a ditch near the scene. She says authorities believe the man was trying to walk to get help in Winkler, Manitoba, when he was struck by the truck about 1 a.m. Saturday.

The driver was not cited for any traffic offenses.
