New TSA Equipment Not at GFK - Yet

Air travel this holiday season might also be more difficult.

The Transportation Security Administration has come under fire for new body scanners and what some say are highly invasive airport pat-downs.

Those changes have yet to land at the Grand Forks airport, but are likely to come soon.

Executive Director of the Grand Forks Airport Patrick Dame says there have not been any complaints locally about the TSA security policy

New full body X-ray machines and enhanced pat downs have some airline passengers up in the air about the Transportation Security Administration policies.

"Currently with the checkpoint, there is very little change out there, procedure changes from TSA that we have heard of," Dame said.

Dame says he doesn't know if or when the technology will arrive at GFK, but expects the new scanners in the future.

"There are different levels of security. But when it comes to the check point security screens most airports are all the same," Dame said.

The security checkpoint at GFK on Tuesday was routine and smooth. And even with all the talk in the media of new full body X-rays or increased pat downs it didn't seem to scare any passengers here.

"I think that is the biggest thing. The traveling public is susceptible to proceedings going on and they understand that it's for the safety of the traveling public," Dame said.

The TSA has said it will look at some of the new policies, but said not to expect any changes before the holidays.
