JAMESTOWN, N.D. – A former mayor here on Wednesday donated a parcel of land to the Jamestown Parks and Recreation department, part of which will be used for a dog park.

Clarice and Reuben Liechty made the donation final after the Jamestown Parks and Recreation Foundation agreed to accept the 17-plus acre parcel in southwest Jamestown, across the river from McElroy Park.

“It’s something that the city needed; it’s something that the park board needed,” Clarice Liechty said.

Parks and Recreation Director Doug Hogan said the dog park will be 2 to 2/12 acres in the southeast corner of what will be called Clarice & Reuben Liechty Park.

Clarice Liechty was a former mayor of Jamestown.
