ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — St. Paul police say a man was arrested after he allegedly threw a 2-year-old cat against his ceiling.

The man's roommate called police Saturday morning and reported the man had been throwing objects around his St. Paul apartment.

Officers arrived and found the cat, named Opehlia, cowering in a closet. Police spokesman Andy Skoogman says the cat had fresh blood on her nose and mouth.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports the 23-year-old man was booked into the Ramsey County jail on suspicion of animal cruelty. He had not been charged and was released from jail Monday.

The man was acting as a foster "parent" to the cat. Ophelia was returned to a North St. Paul shelter and seems to be OK.
