A Theif River Falls radio station is reporting that a Pennington County Grand Jury failed to indict a 20-year-old Thief River Falls man on charges of murder.
TRF Radio reports on their website that a Grand Jury failed to return an indictment for murder, instead indicting Daniel Molstad on 2 felony level offenses: Possession of Marijuana and Conspiracy to Commit a Controlled Substance Crime.
TRFradio.com says Molstad entered a plea of guilty to both, with sentencing in February.
Thief River Falls police say they got a call April 26th from a nurse after 23-year-old Matthew Shepard was dropped off at the Thief River Falls emergency room with stab wounds.
Sheppard later died.
Police say Sheppard and three other men had taken 20-year-old Daniel Molstad out to the country to beat him up over drugs and owed money.
A criminal complaint says Molstad told authorities he thought the men were going to kill him, and that he pulled out a knife and swung it in an attempt to defend himself while the men, including Sheppard, were beating and kicking him. Molstad says the men left him in the ditch. He will be back in court for sentencing in February.
