LARIMORE, N.D. (AP) - The Larimore School Board has reached an agreement with the district's 40 teachers on a new contract.

The two sides had declared an impasse in early fall after more than a dozen negotiating sessions that began last spring. Teachers this school year have been working under the previous contract.

The Grand Forks Herald reports that teachers were seeking an increase in the base salary from $28,250 to $31,500. The board offered $29,500. A panel chosen by state education officials heard arguments in early October and later recommended a base salary of $30,000.

The two sides then talked about the nonbinding recommendation and agreed to make the base salary $29,750 for first-year teachers, a raise of 5.3 percent. Each step on the salary schedule gets a similar raise.
