MINOT, N.D. (AP) — Officials say a telethon aired Monday night throughout North Dakota raised almost $2 million for flood recovery in Minot.

Organizers say more than 2,800 people pledged to donate money, for a total of $1.94 million.

Minot Area Community Foundation president Ken Kitzman called the event an "unqualified success" and said the money is needed for people whose homes were damaged.

Record flooding from the Souris River earlier this summer forced more than 11,000 people to evacuate. About 4,100 homes were damaged.
