Sales Tax Revenue Up In Grand Forks

The Grand Forks City Finance Department says October sales tax revenue was the sixth highest monthly total since 1985. The city received $1.7 million in the month of October.

The Grand Forks City Finance Department says October sales tax revenue was the sixth highest monthly total since 1985.

The city received $1.7 million in the month of October.

Finance officials say they were stunned to see October so high.

Sales tax brings in money into the general fund and keeps property taxes down.

Sales tax revenue in July of this year was the second highest on record.

"It looks like we have had better years in 2007 and 2008 and it went down a little bit because of the recession but it is again coming up," GF Finance Director Saroj Jerath said.

So far in 2010, Grand Forks has collected $16.6 million, up $223,000 from the same period in 2009.
