A group at UND is likely to recommend elimination of the Fighting Sioux logo and nickname from virtually all uses after the NCAA deadline.

The honoring history and tradition task group at UND is discussing the first draft of a recommendation to President Kelley.

University Relations vice president Peter Johnson says the overall consensus has been to change the nickname on most things.

This includes changing names of organizations like the Fighting Sioux sports network, Soaring Sioux parachute group and the Fighting Sioux Battalion.

"We've done several assessments, we've done inventory on the different uses of the name and logo and categorized those and the process will be to go through those results and determine if we're ready to make a recommendation to the President," Peter Johnson said.

UND's use of the Fighting Sioux nickname can continue until August 15th of 2011.
