The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for a large portion of northeast North Dakota, in effect until 6 a.m. Thursday.
The Weather Service says a heavy band of snow will fall through Wednesday night in the Devils Lake region where up to a foot of snow is expected. Elsewhere, 5 to 7 inches will fall southeast of there through Valley City and Fargo and then to Wahpeton and Elbow Lake.
NWS says there will be a sharp drop in snow amounts on the eastern edge of the system.
A winter storm warning for heavy snow means that severe winter weather conditions are expected. Significant amounts of snow are forecast and will make travel dangerous.
If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
