Gas Leak Prompts Evacuation in Minneapolis

A two-block-radius area of Minneapolis has been evacuated due to a gas leak.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A two-block-radius area of Minneapolis has been evacuated due to a gas leak.

Centerpoint Energy spokeswoman Becca Virden told KSTP-TV the leak happened just after 10 a.m. near 14th and Franklin Avenues in south Minneapolis. Yellow police tape marks the closed-off area .

Centerpoint is asking people leaving the area to make sure they don't cause sparks. A car going through, a cell phone call, a match or a lighter all could cause sparks.

Buses have been brought in as temporary shelters for evacuated residents so they can stay warm.

Crews are at the scene, and Virden says Centerpoint estimates it will take a couple more hours to get things back to normal in the area
