Heavy Snowfall Causes Travel Headaches in Lake Region

Wind and snow are making for icy snow-covered roads in the Lake Region. With all of the snow on the ground in Devils Lake, drivers had to slow down as visibility decreased.

The snow began falling at about 5 a.m. Wednesday and was been steady throughout the day.

As the wind picked up, travel in and outside of town became even more hazardous.

Sergeant Robert Kennedy says people are driving with caution, but it's important to remember to drive with your lights on.

And if you need to stop, it's best to pull off onto an approach or the side of the road.

He credits drivers in the Lake Region for taking advisories seriously.

"They've lived to know when the weather service announces 6 to 8 inches of snow plus poor driving conditions, when DOT puts out the information, they pretty much adhere to those conditions," Kennedy said.
