A jury in Grafton has convicted a man of
sexually abusing a child.
Jurors deliberated for about 2½ hours Friday before finding Ciro
Gomez guilty of the felony, which could bring him a maximum
sentence of life in prison without parole. A sentencing date was
not immediately set.
Gomez's trial on the charge of continuous sexual abuse of a
child lasted four days. He testified in his own defense and denied
the charge.
The girl testified that she liked Gomez when he moved in with
her mother in June last year. She said the abuse started almost
immediately after that, until his arrest in January this year.
Both prosecutor Barbara Whelan and defense attorney Henry Howe
declined comment after the verdict.
