It was a typical day at work for Jim Johnson on a routine delivery, until he heard a noise and had to figure it what it was. Johnson chased the crying sound to a window well of the garage and there he saw the three tiny kittens covered in hornets. He says he didn't think twice about saving the kittens, jumping into the hornets nest himself. The kittens had hornets crawling out of their ears and embedded in their bodies.
Jim Johnson – Rescued the Kitten: “They are so young they won’t even remember it.”
Days later, you can still feel the lumps from the stings covering their tiny bodies, but they weren't the only victims of the angered hornets. During the rescue Johnson was stung about 20 times and even bitten by one of the kittens. Johnson says these kittens that were once lifeless are now full of spunk and he knows there going to make it.
Jim Johnson: “They are a living thing you know, and it's unfortunate that their mother had to leave them, somebody has to take care of them, and you know they obviously couldn't get out of the situation.”
One of the kittens died on Saturday but the other two are on antibiotics and growing stronger with bottle feedings. Johnson hopes to give them away to a good home as soon as the kittens are old enough to be let go.
Jim Johnson: “They are good kittens, they deserve to live.”
