The Grand Forks County Commission has been asked twice to join Red River Survey groups to help fund impact surveys for the Fargo Diversion. On Tuesday, the commission decided to follow-up on the Fargo diversion impacts on their own.

The commission assigned County Planning and Zoning Director Lane Magnuson to work with Grand Forks City Engineer Al Grasser and attend the Army Corps of Engineers Community Leader Meetings once a month. They'll report back to the County on the corps' latest impact information.

"I think we can monitor it on our own until the next year when there is a stronger indication on how the project is going to go and what the impacts are," said John Schmisek, Grand Forks County Commissioner.

Schmisek says the Commission is staying updated to keep those along the river safe from rising water caused by the diversion.
