The UND Aerobatic Flying Team won its 3rd National Championship in a row.

The team competed in 3 different flying contests throughout the summer. Out of 8 flyers, the top three scores were totaled. The team beat out top flying schools like Embery Riddle and the Air Force Academy to win this honor.

Coach Ryan Carlson says it shows the quality of training pilots receive at the University of North Dakota.

"It's great for the students. It gives them an opportunity to excel in a sport that's maybe not a traditional collegiate sport, and it's important within the Odegard School and aerospace," said Ryan Carlson, a coach with the UND Aerobatic team.

This is the eighth year the UND team has taken part in the competitions. Pilots are judged on things like roll rates and the radius of loops.
