An early evening fire lead to the total loss of a garage and car in Grand Forks Thursday.

Firefighters were called to 624 8th Avenue North in Grand Forks after receiving a report that a detached garage was on fire.

Large flames were coming out of the garage when firefighters arrived on the scene.

The owner of the garage, Jared Lundeby, says he thinks the fire started under the hood of the car that was in the garage at the time.

Lundeby says if it wasn't for a driver passing by and noticing the flames, it could have been a lot worse.

"The garage door was closed when I went inside and I'd say the lord opened it up for me so that passerby could see it and we could get it taken care of before it got worse," Lundeby said.

Lundeby says everything in the garage will be covered by insurance.
