New app helps parents track their 'ghosts and goblins' this Halloween

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - In less than a week children and teens will be hitting the street with sacks in hand ready for a big bag full of sweets. It can also be an anxious time for parents worrying about where their children are and if they're safe. This Halloween new technology can make tracking your child even easier.

In less than a week children and teens will be hitting the street with sacks in hand ready for a big bag full of sweets. It can also be an anxious time for parents worrying about where their children are and if they're safe. This Halloween new technology can make tracking your child even easier.

Lynn Strand's shopping for a costume to compliment her daughter's princess gown for trick or treating, but her daughter's safety is top priority this Halloween.

Lynn Strand – Parent: "We just go to houses that we know so that way we know she's getting good candy and we don't have to worry about anyone coming up to her."

But what Lynn doesn't know is there's a new app to keep her and her daughter connected. It's called Trick of Tracker.

Lynn Strand: "I think that's actually a good idea. I don't think your teen's gonna like knowing that you are monitoring what you are doing. But I definitely think its something nice that will put you at ease."

It's easy to use. You snag a smartphone, download the app and immediately start tracking down your trick or treaters.

Lt. Joel Vettel – Fargo Police: "As a police officer and a parent, I think it’s a wonderful idea."

The app links two phones so the parent can find their child's location and vice versa. But police says not to fully trust technology.

Lt. Joel Vettel: "All the technology in the world does not bring the level of common sense that a human being brings."

Police say apps should just be an extra way to stay safe when children are out snagging sweets. You can download the app for free at http://www.trickortracker.com
