Winter Storm Moving in Tonight, Another for New Year's Eve

The National Weather Service says a winter storm will impact the region late Wednesday night through Thursday night. Another storm is expected to affect the region on New Year's Eve.

The National Weather Service says a winter storm will impact the region late Wednesday night through Thursday night. Another storm is expected to affect the region on New Year's Eve.

A winter storm warning is in effect from 6 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Friday. A winter storm watch is in effect from Friday afternoon through Saturday morning.

The weather service says heavy snow will move into the Devils Lake basin and northeast North Dakota starting Wednesday night. Snow will also develop late Wednesday into Thursday across extreme northwest Minnesota.

The weather service says strong winds will develop along and west of the Red River Valley producing visibilities of 1/2 mile or less.

Snow accumulations of 6 to 9 inches are possible over eastern North Dakota and the Red River Valley.

The service says a second storm will move in on Friday afternoon into Saturday bringing colder air, strong winds, snow and possible blizzard conditions.

A winter storm warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will be make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. If you have to travel, take an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle.
